Italian design may or may not be liked, admired, praised and criticized. But in the whole world, you will not find a single person indifferent to him. In addition, the brand made in Italy is a standard of impeccable quality. Italian furniture makers have been famous for their skills since the time of the Roman Empire.

The Italian style can be realized practically in any room due to the fact that it is based on two different directions – classical and modern, and each of them is attractive and interesting in its own way.

Required attributes of classical Italian style are columns, arches, colonnades. They allow not only to decorate the interior but also the visually separate room. Another characteristic feature – decorative architectural elements in the form of stucco, bas-reliefs, and cornices.

In the classical Italian style, there are necessarily large windows. Nothing should interfere with the penetration of sunlight into the room, so drapery of window openings is minimal. Traditionally in Italy, curtains are not used, preferring blinds of various modifications. In the interior, you can find a fireplace, which softens and balances the majestic design.

In order for the classical Italian direction to look more comfortable and not turn into an antique style, it is “diluted” with ceiling beams, wooden floors, and various man-made objects.

Modern Italian style in the interior

Modern Italian style is ideal for decorating city apartments. He does not need high ceilings and huge rooms, because the main focus is not on interior decoration, but on his situation. Modern Italian apartments are more like showrooms in which novelties of the design world are presented. In this case, fashion items can be organically combined with vintage products.

Unbelievable but true! In modern Italian homes, there is no hallway in its usual sense. Until the middle of the XX century, the role of the hall was played by a small room called disimpegno, which literally translates as “utility room”. In the future, it was abandoned altogether, because a comfortable climate allows you not to wear warm outerwear, and cobbled streets in rainy time almost do not spoil the shoes.

Another unusual feature concerns flats with a balcony. Italians never glazed loggias, turning them into almost another room. On the contrary, the open balcony is decorated with flowerpots with ornamental plants and beautiful lamps in order to maintain the attractive appearance of the building.

The second most popular option, which was used to decorate modern Italian interiors – wooden floors. Traditionally, they are made from a parquet board, and the shade of the floor covering is combined with a touch of other wooden elements present in the finish.
